Location 7: Cave near Taenarum

Objective: Enter the Cave

Seemingly no time has passed, when you awaken at the mouth of a cave. A giant stone slab blocks the entrance, and there is an array of buttons with symbols on them. Each seems to share features with a few other buttons. If you can figure out the pattern of shared features, this may open a path to you. The Helm of Darkness will be useless to you if you can't figure out how to remove this stone blockade.

Calliope

I am Calliope, daughter of Zeus, and the first muse. I have been seeking a savior to be a hero to all mankind. In these dark days, there is little hope in the world of men. I beseech you to undertake a quest to find Pandora’s jar and return hope to the world. This quest can only be accomplished by a mortal - a mortal who is brave and clever and committed to the cause of mankind. I and my sisters shall support your efforts with the knowledge and skills that we alone can impart during your campaign.

To guide you on your journey, I have provided you the quest stone. It now reveals merely the past and present, as only the Fates can spin the thread of your future. You must go now to the altar of the fates, and prove yourself worthy to receive their gifts. Prove that you mean to bring balance to mankind, and they will reveal your destiny, written into the quest stone. Go now, and bring hope to mankind.

Kleio

I am Kleio, the proclaimer, glorifier and celebrator of history. Though the location of the great jar and the hope it contains remains* hidden to me, the fates have revealed that your quest will parallel that of Demeter, the mother of Persephone. To elevate yourself above the human sphere and complete your quest, you must undergo the initiation rites of the Eleusinian Mysteries.

To aid you, I have provided you the knowledge stone. With it, you will have access to knowledge that would otherwise be hidden from you. The procession to Eleusis begins at dusk on the 18th day of the month of Anthesterion. You have 24 hours before the procession begins. Make haste!

Urania

I am Urania, the muse of mathematics and astronomy. You are brave indeed to seek entrance to the underworld in order to bring hope to mankind. The entrance to the underworld is both known and unknown, as its location shifts with the whims of its guardian, Hades.

However, the stars shine on all, and will guide you to where you must go. You are in possession of Demeter’s terrestrial maps. Take this sextant and follow the path of the stars to the location on the map, and you shall be transported there in a dreamless sleep. Beware of what you find when you awake!

Terpsichore

Awake, child, for you have arrived. I am Terpsichore, muse of the dance. Only the sure-footed can make their way through the Underworld without falling into the eternal mists, or awakening the hordes that dwell within. To aid you in your quest, I give you the Helm of Darkness. Don this helm, and you shall remain invisible to the denizens of Hades for a period of time.
