Hints

Hint #1

Laveau's inversions haven't been working. Maybe she is trying to reverse the wrong spell.

Hint #2

The students' earlier communications suggest they were trying to cast Umbrae. Their current state suggests they made a mistake.

Hint #3

It's probably best to recreate the students' botched spell before trying to invert it. Don't worry - you're an ordinary. You won't have enough magical power to actually cast a spell - botched or otherwise!

Hint #4

From Introducatory Spellcraft, you know that the Earth token must be placed in the bottom crux of the pentagram to cast Umbrae.

Hint #5

Anna listed the correct adjacent elements in her sketchbook, but she seemed uncertain about alignmnet.

Hint #6

No spell will work if the tokens in the oppositional cruxes aren't aligned. The tokens below are aligned because the green facets are facing each other.

Hint #7

The Altar Guide gives a stern warning of the consequences of not having the two adjacent tokens align with the token in the key position. Spirit and Air are each aligned with Earth below. Air shares a red facet with Earth, and Spirit shares a blue facet with Earth.

Hint #8

The students had Spirit and Air swapped, which caused the reflection that trapped them. To recreate that spell, you much swap Spirit and Air so they a NOT aligned with Earth (while keeping Fire and Water aligned with each other)

Hint #9

The Rituals book shows you how to invert or reverse a spell. Just swap the left side top and bottom elements, and do the same for the right side, not worrying about alighment anywhere on the board.
